Aussie Shore, part of the successful Shore franchise, premiered last October on Paramount+ and it’s already making waves. Like in other successful versions of this franchise, Aussie Shore is full of drama.
A comprehensive solution
Behind the scenes, our team engineered a comprehensive solution to capture all the villa adventures. We chose a Maxi Rig to follow the adventures of these 11 single Aussies brought together in a tropical villa in Cairns.
Our Maxi Rig workflow included a 2-tier control room with 24/7 recording and switching capabilities for 21 PTZ cameras, RF monitoring of 4 ENG cameras roaming around the villa, and a multi-zone radio mic RF solution.
Working in an existing private venue called for a subtle, carefully planned approach to the cabling and mounting of cameras. We had to find the right placement for the equipment and cabling without overly impacting the villa.
Facing the tropics
Filming in the tropics presented some rather unique challenges. Shooting on the ocean’s edges meant tropical rain that fell sideways. We needed to design a specific waterproof solution to protect the cameras from both vertical and horizontal rain squalls.
Delivering a project like Aussie Shore challenged our team to be as creative as possible in creating a discreet setup that didn’t disrupt the talent but also considered the harsh climate conditions. Ray Martin, head of Technical Services, said: ‘We needed to monitor, control and record over 20 cameras 24/7 while keeping everything within the space allocated to the production. We had to find the right placement of cameras and equipment without impacting the property’.
