Description
Makito X4 Rugged Video Encoder
Compact, 4-Input Ruggedised Military-Grade Encoding Appliance
Designed for the most demanding environments, the Makito X4 Rugged is an ultra low latency, multi-channel encoder that delivers high-quality, AVC/H.264 and HEVC/H.265 video from analog and digital sources at resolutions up to 1920x1080p60 and 3840x2160p60 (4K UHD). Compliance with KLV and CoT metadata standards ensures that interoperability is achieved within a small form factor and all-weather MIL-STD-810G/DO-160 appliance.
> Efficient Encoding – HEVC or H.264 encoding for multi-bitrate streaming up to 4K UHD
> Ultra Low Latency – Respond in real-time to mission-critical video information
> Metadata Filtering – Low-bitrate streaming through KLV filtering
> Path Redundancy – Hitless failover and protection switching for uninterrupted live video streaming.
> Dual Network Interfaces – Maintain separate management and streaming networks
> Multi-bitrate streaming – 8 encoding cores and stream replication
> Fully Ruggedized – DO-160, MIL-STD-810G & MIL-STD-1275E all weather design
> Compliant – NATO STANAG 4609 & MISB for interoperability
Key Features
Flexible Video from SD to 4K – Ingest video from a broad range of sensors. Ruggedized connectors provide support for three analog composite inputs, four 3G-SDI inputs and one 12G-SDI 4K/UHD input making the Makito X4 Rugged highly versatile and truly future-proof.
Ultra Low Latency, High Quality Streaming – High picture quality at very low bitrates and low latency makes the Makito X4 Rugged ideal for real-time situational awareness. Efficient HEVC encoding (50% bandwidth saving compared to H.264) reliably delivers video over constrained IP networks, line of sight (LOS) and satellite links.
Maximum Processing Power – 8 encoding cores for H.264 and HEVC video at SD, HD and UHD resolutions. Multiple encodes can be applied to each input for dissemination to different downstream systems simultaneously, for instance providing one higher quality stream encoded at H264 for LOS links, and another using low bitrate HEVC for SATCOM.
KLV Metadata – MISB-compliant Key-Length-Value (KLV) and Cursor-on-Target (CoT) metadata transport within an MPEG-2 transport stream ensures interoperability with downstream users. Flexible metadata filtering helps optimize picture quality over highly constrained networks.

Centralised Management
An intuitive web-based interface enables systems administrators and users to configure and manage a Makito X4 Rugged Video Encoder from anywhere. For managing multiple Makito X encoders and decoders, the Haivision EMS element management system can be used to organize and group devices with custom tags, monitor their status in real time, and perform firmware upgrades from a central location.
Powered by SRT
Haivision’s Secure Reliable Transport (SRT) technology provides end-to-end security, resiliency and dynamic endpoint adjustment based on real-time network conditions to deliver the best video quality at all times.
With SRT, you can optimize video streaming across unpredictable networks, like the Internet, by assuring quality-of-service when faced with packet loss, jitter, latency, and fluctuating bandwidth.
SRT offers significant operational flexibility and cost savings over (or compared to) satellite or custom network infrastructures.
